always welcome feedback from our guests that stay here. Apart from
the review book in the Guesthouse you have no way of knowing how
much people enjoy staying here. Why not read them yourself on www.tripadvisor.com.
As from March 2008 we are voted 3rd best B&B in Oxford (this
may go up or down over the next few months).
These are genuine comments from people
who have stayed here, some of which are listed below: (All comments

The ones we like!

We've just had a long weekend in Oxford, staying at the Homelea
Guesthouse and can heartily recommend it to anyone. The location
is great, a bare 15min walk into the centre of Oxford, or only a
few min by bus, so we could leave the car parked behind the house
when visiting the city! Our room was spacious and clean, with an
excellent view over the pretty garden behind the house. The staff
were very helpful and friendly, the manager Matthew was always available
to answer questions about the area and was very warm and welcoming.
The breakfasts were very tasty, with good quality bacon and sausages.
All in all, this great guesthouse helped to make our stay in Oxford
highly enjoyable and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!
Thanks to Matthew and all the staff!!

I lived in HomeLea Guest House for about two weeks, waiting to set
up my life in Oxford.
The location is perfect for who want to visit Oxford: Abingdon Road
is directly connected to the town center by bus (about 5 min), and
when it's not raining you can take a 15 minutes walk to arrive in
High Street. The rooms are very clean (better then others guest
houses in Oxford), private toilette, breakfast is delicious and
Mattew is a reeeeeeally nice guy: you can ask him for everything
and he will surely help you for your trip in Oxford or your problems.
There is wi-fi connection, so also professionals can be comfortable
here.

I don't normally "do" B&Bs
and prefer to stay in hotels so I was not expecting much. On this
occasion it was a late booking and most of the hotels were full
or extremely expensive.
This place is in a great location for a visit
to Oxford. Not too far out of town but it's nice and quiet. Apparently
it's a nice walk to town but as the weather was extremely cruel
to us (it was lashing down) we jumped on the bus which stops yards
away and were in town in a jiffy. It was great to able to park up
and leave the car there too.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable. I
don't normally sleep too well but I had a very good nights sleep!
The only downside - the cooked breakfast was
good quality but a little short on quantity I felt. My nine beans,
one small mushroom cut into about 10 pieces (what was that all about?)
and my spoonful of scrambled egg wouldn't do for those with a hearty
appetite. Perhaps being a Sunday, the cupboard was a little bare,
who knows?!! The bacon was nice though.
Matthew is a really nice, friendly guy and very
helpful.
I would forgive the breakfast as I guess it was
the exception rather than the rule judging by others' comments,
and would return to Homelea if I visited Oxford again.

Only one mile south of the City Centre with a lovely walk along
the Thames, this Guest House is well placed. The room we stayed
in was on the front and we heard no traffic noise at all. The room
was very spacious and the shower was hot and powerful. You certainly
get looked after during your stay as Matthew is always on hand to
answer your questions when he's not cooking your "made-to-measure"
breakfast.
Oxford City is a fantastic place to visit
and I would highly recommend the "Homelea Guest House"
to all visitors from the UK or abroad.

We have just spent two nights at Homelea
and what a little gem. The House is a lovely walk along the Thames
to the city where you can see the colleges practising their rowing
techinques. Matthew was a wonderful host. Nothing was too much trouble
and he was very informative as to walks around the city and what
to see. He recommend The Fox at Boars Hill which was excellent,
food and service.
Would definately stay again and certainly recommend this B &
B. A very pleasant, clean and tidy guest house with everything that
you may need. Thanks Matthew.

The ones we don’t like but take
very seriously.
Apr 23, 2008 – 4 joyful travel
My husband and I stayed for two nights in
Room 4 of the Homlea Guest House. The room was small and cramped,
and the floor was extremely squeaky. The bathroom was absolutely
tiny--so small that the sink had to be in the bedroom. There was
not an adequate place for hanging towels. The room was nicely decorated,
however, and there was plenty of storage space for clothes. The
room had a small black and white TV. The double bed was uncomfortable
and sagged in the middle, so we did not sleep very well. We did
have a good, filling full English breakfast. The garden in the back
was pleasant to look at. It was an easy bus ride to Oxford city
centre (2 pounds for a return trip). The Homelea is under new management.
Matthew was friendly and helpful, but I did not think the Homelea
delivered good value for the money.
Manager’s comment: They say
the room was small and cramped but there was plenty of storage space??
Certain furniture has been rearranged to make more space. However,
there seems to be enough room already. The black and white TV has
been changed to colour. The double bed seems fine. Comments from
other guests have been good. The picture of the room is accurate.
The sink is just out of sight.

This was out 3rd stay at Homelea and were
a bit disappointed. The guest house has abviously changed hands
again and is either being run completely differently or not by experienced
people. We were met with an envelope stuck on the back door with
our name on, advising which room we were in and a set of keys. The
first encounter with the front door was 'difficult', the lock was
hard to open and we thought the key would snap. The room was lovely,
views of the garden, where someone had obviously spent a lot of
time, the bulbs in flower were glorious.
Had a fantastic time in Oxford, there is so much to see and do,
came back absolutely knackered and sank into a very comfortable
bed. We turned up for breakfast just before closing and to be fair,
think the chap thought that we wouldn't have any so wasn't prepared.
The contintental breakfast area was depleted, the tables dirty,
and no attempt was made to refill it for us, we felt slightly embarrased
for being the last in! The cooked breakfast when it arrived was
also disappointing, the sausages were well overcooked and almost
black. The mushrooms had given up and were shrivelled up lumps.
The scrambled egg was cut into a triangular shape (?) and overcooked.
The coffee was good though. Before we had chance to leave the bedroom
there was a knock at the door and the cleaner was waiting to come
in. She was obviously foreign and didn't understand or speak english,
when we said we would be 10/15mins she just smiled. On the whole
the room was nice and the carpark a great advantage as parking in
Oxford is very expensive. We didn't enjoy our stay as much as the
other times but as a cheap alternative to other accommodation in
Oxford, Homelea is ok. Best Tip: haggle with the chap on the phone
for a cheaper rate - it worked for us!!
Manager’s comments: 14 years
in the hospitality trade and still not experienced and just no good
at the job – Maybe I should look for another vocation! Other
reviews are good and the guest comment book makes it all worth while!
There are certain check in times. Every effort is made to be in
the guesthouse when people arrive. If check in times are missed
and there is no-one to welcome you, clear instructions are left
telling you what to do. From customer feedback this is generally
fine. The last thing anyone would want is to leave you standing
outside. Good news about the rooms and gardens. Being 35mins late
for breakfast is hard to cater for. I can’t really comment
on the breakfast and tables because I don’t believe this is
true.
